The Government provides funding for students who fit in the Pupil Premium categories of free school meals (including those who are no longer eligible for free school meals but have been eligible in the last 6 years), looked after students, those students adopted from care and children of service personnel. The purpose of this is to narrow the attainment gap between students where evidence shows that they underachieve in comparison to their peers.
It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium Funding is spent as they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for individual students.

Sandbach School strives to attain the highest standards and ensure inclusion and equal access for all learners.
Pupil Premium Funding is a means of addressing some of the issues associated with social disadvantage and, in particular, to help close any gap in attainment where this exists. The circumstances of students eligible for Pupil Premium vary significantly and students can face many different barriers to educational achievement. For some there may be financial barriers to learning which are overcome by the school providing resources and work aids. For others there may be self-esteem and self-belief issues which can affect their motivation and achievement.
Our Pupil Premium Strategy details how we plan to improve the attainment of all of our students who have some degree of disadvantage during 2022-23. You can view our Pupil Premium Strategy for 2022 – 2025 by clicking HERE.
A range of support is available to help families and students experiencing financial hardship.

Free School Meals
The Government is allocating funding to schools to support students from lower income families to do their very best. This funding is called the ‘Pupil Premium’ and is allocated, in part, on how many students receive free school meals. With this money we can enhance the opportunities and support offered within school.
If your child is registered to receive free school meals then:
· Your child can purchase healthy food and drinks from the school canteen at break and / or lunchtime to the maximum of £2.85 per day. This is a saving of up to £542 per year.
· You will be eligible to receive support for the costs of a school trip or visit.
· You will be eligible to receive support with uniform costs when your child first comes to the school in Year 7.
