Reporting Student Absence

Parents/carers should contact school before 8.00am on each day of absence by phoning 01270 758870, (select the appropriate year group and leave a message giving the pupil’s name, form and the reason for their absence). Alternatively, you can do this by email to the appropriate absence email address below:

Punctuality

Students should arrive at school promptly by 8.25am in time for registration at 8.30am. Students should always make sure that they are in the appropriate classroom no later than the times shown.

Appointments

We encourage parents/carers to book non-urgent medical and dental appointments outside of the school day or during the holidays. Where this is unavoidable, please email or send one of the following at least 1 school day in advance:

  • a copy of the appointment letter
  • a screenshot or photograph of the appointment time and date

Absence Requests

Requests for absence due to exceptional circumstances should be made in writing to the Headteacher at least 14 days before the absence explaining the reasons. Any leave of absence is granted entirely at the Headteacher’s discretion and is not a parental right.

Penalty Notice (PN)

A fixed penalty notice (FPN) may be issued in cases of unauthorised absence and may be considered appropriate in any of the following circumstances.

  • In cases of overt truancy
  • In cases of parentally condoned absence where this can be demonstrated
  • In instances of unauthorised holidays in term time
  • In cases of persistent late arrival at school after the register has closed.
