Adrian Mitchell
A former student of Sandbach School, Adrian has for the past 20 years held a number of positions in a large American IT company. Adrian currently specialises in IT Corporate Security for customers, many of which are well known businesses within the UK. Adrian was also a consultant for over five years, travelling to customer sites around Europe implementing Web based systems. Adrian’s sons also attended Sandbach School.
Clare Longden – Vice Chair of Governors & Link Governor for Maths
Clare’s early career was spent working in Human Resource Management and she now operates a consultancy specialising in occupational psychology. Her son previously attended Sandbach School.
Peter Sherratt – Chair of Governors
Peter is a former student of Sandbach School. Now retired, Peter was previously a HR professional and head-hunter. Peter is also a level 3 RFU coach and former player to international representative level. Both of Peter’s sons attended Sandbach School. Peter has been a Governors of Sandbach School since 1993, he is currently Chairman of Governors.
Dominic Surry – Link Governor for Health & Safety
Dominic is co-founder and director of a business which delivers STEM based workshops in schools, colleges, universities and businesses. Prior to this, Dominic worked for 27 years in the pharmaceutical industry rising to associate director level. Dominic has delivered numerous workshops and courses around leadership and culture change in large organisations. Dominic supports all three sections of the Sandbach School CCF and has led a UK wide leadership programme for the CCF Air Cadets.
His current role with the RAF Air Cadets is leading the Immersive Technologies Team to engage learners and bring the whole syllabus to life.
Jane Cowell – Link Governor for Safeguarding, Attendance & Behaviour, Mental Health & Wellbeing and the Sixth Form
Jane was previously National Director of Young Peoples Funding with the ESFA where she was responsible for funding policy implementation and funding allocations to schools, colleges and other providers for 16-19 participation, post-16 High Needs Students and all post-16 Student Financial Support.
Jane has had a number of leadership and management roles in education spanning further education colleges, higher education, local authorities and the voluntary sector. When her children were young Jane worked as a self-employed consultant in the education area and during this time worked with Helena Kennedy QC on her review and report on widening participation. Jane’s son previously attended Sandbach School.
Jane is also a trustee of the Co-op Academies Trust where she chairs the Growth & Development Committee and is the Trust Board Lead for Safeguarding. Jane is also a Governor of Reaseheath College.
Jennifer Wells – Vice Chair Teaching & learning Committee, Link Governor for English, SEND & Pupil Premium
Jennifer started her career teaching young people with Special Educational Needs. Jennifer was previously Head of English at a large local college before moving to a different role where she developed and delivered HE programmes in Education and Teacher Training, this included introducing and teaching a SEND pathway for a Foundation Degree in Children and Young People’s Services. Jennifer is also an area moderator and examiner for two awarding bodies. Both of Jennifer’s children attended Sandbach School.
Jennifer is currently Programme Leader for MA Education at a University in the Midlands. Recent publications include two books focussing on Inclusion Education and contribution to a book for new SENDCOs.
John Cargill – Chair Teaching & Learning Committee, Chair Pay & Personnel Committee and Vice Chair Business & Resources Committee
Originally a professional engineer in the offshore oil and gas industry, John later became a project manager for introduction of new financial regulation within the insurance industry. John has an MBA in addition to an engineering degree and has extensive experience in operations as well as technical marketing. Both of John’s sons attended Sandbach School.
John has been a Governor of Sandbach School for 18 years. He is Chair of Governors of a local Primary School and is a trustee of a Scottish Educational Charity.
Mike Roberts – Vice Chair Audit Committee
Mike is a former student of Sandbach School and deputy Chairman of Frank Roberts & Sons Ltd Bakery, a successful family business in Cheshire. During Mikes 40 years at the business, turnover has grown to c£100m and a new 3,000m2 bakery has been constructed at a cost of approximately £15m. Bakery products are distributed over a wide area of the North West and Midlands. There are approximately 750 members of staff. Mike has been a Governor of Sandbach School since 2004.
Robert England – Audit, Vice Chair Pay & Personnel Committee
Now retired, Robert previously held several directorships in a variety of manufacturing businesses. Robert has extensive experience of financial and operational management. Robert’s daughter is Curriculum Leader of Music at Sandbach School.
Stephen Davies – Chair Business & Resources Committee
Stephen was previously a student at Sandbach School and graduated from the University of Bristol with an undergraduate degree in law and as a post graduate from Nottingham Law School. He was admitted to the roll of solicitors in 2010 and currently works as a Legal Advisor to the Cabinet Office with past experience providing legal advice to a number of other central Government Department.
Carol Bulman
Carol was previously a teacher at Sandbach School for over 20 years. Now retired from teaching, Carol is an elected member of Cheshire East Council as part of the administration. Her roles include; Former Chair of Staffing, Chair of Appointments Committee, Vice Chair of Children and Families Committee, Member of Audit & Governance Committee, Corporate Parenting Committee and Member of the Cheshire Pensions Committee. She also holds the outside appoints of Governor of Sandbach School and of Sir John Deane’s Academy; on the Brine Board; on North West Employers.
She is currently an elected member of Middlewich Town Council. Carol is also Chair of the HTC Youth Hub.
Dave Evans
Dave is a qualified PE teacher and an SLE in behaviour management. He works with challenging students to engage them with their leraning in local schools in addition to training staff in all aspects of behaviour management. He is a qualified Trauma Informed Practitioner.
Dave is a director of Warrington Rugby Club and has been the staff representative on the board of governors at Sandbach School for 5 years.
William-Smith Coats
William has an extensive business commercial background including working at senior board level.
William has held various roles that cover Sales & Marketing with a major focus on the financial health and improved P&L performance. In the last 5 years he also had his own consultancy advising business on improved efficiency, implementing change, recruitment and marketing strategy. Most of his roles have been strongly focused on business improvement and development with the delivery of achieving greater income through various commercial and marketing strategies. William’s son currently attends Sandbach School.
