The upcoming Design and Technology Exhibition on Thursday 31^st May is the culmination of many pupils efforts with their GCSE and A Level over the past year.

The exhibition takes place in the Rigby Block from 4-7pm and is a celebration of work which pupils have produced.

The Year 10 GCSE Catering group will be preparing and serving food and drink during the exhibition and there will be work on show from a range of Design and Technology subjects, including BTEC Construction, Year 9 GCSE Short Course in Product Design, GCSE Product Design and AS and A2 Product Design.

The exhibition is open to all and the standard of work has improved over the past year.  Mrs Henshaw, Assistant Curriculum Leader for Design and Technology, commented “It is fantastic to be able to showcase the excellent work which pupils have spent a great deal of effort completing.  We would like as many people as possible to come along to the exhibition and see the work, much of which is commercially viable.”

Y10 MENTORING – Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30^th May 2012.

The meetings will take place on Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th May 2012 between 2:00pm and 6:15pm in the LRC. We would therefore ask you to park in the car park situated at the side of the main school buildings adjacent to the playing fields.  Disabled parking is available next to the LRC if required.  You should arrive approximately 5 minutes before your allocated time; this will help us to ensure that appointments run to schedule.

Please note that Year 10 DO NOT attend school from 12:15pm on the 29^th and 30^th May 2012.  We believe that the time missed will be more than made up for by the positive impact of the mentoring interview. If he needs to catch a school bus on either of these days he will be able to stay in school and complete homework under supervision.  He must tell his Form Tutor, before the end of this week, if he will need to use this facility. All other Year groups will be in school as normal.

The Key Stage 3 Graphics Club, run by Miss Donohue, are just completing their latest assignments.  All term they have been working hard on designing and making Ipod/MP3/phone pouches based on vinyl monsters.  They first designed their pouches, then tested the design before making their final products.

Next they will be moving onto printing cards using the printing press.

The House hockey tournaments have just taken place, with House Cricket scheduled to start this week.

Year 11 Product Designers have recently submitted their Controlled Assessment, worth 60% of their final mark.  Pupils were required to produce a design portfolio detailing how they have researched, designed, modelled and made their project which was aimed at a target market of their choice.

The standard of work was very high with a wide range of creative and innovative ideas and Mr Bowyer commented “The range of projects and commitment shown by the pupils has ensured the final outcomes meet the design briefs set by the exam board.  A number of pupils will have already achieved their target grade as they sat their exam at the end of Year 10 and many pupils have an opportunity to improve their grade when they sit their GCSE Product Design exam on Friday 25^th May.”

Year 10 Product Design pupils are also sitting their exam on the same date before beginning their Controlled Assessment.

All GCSE work will be on show, along with work from AS and A2 Product Design pupils and a selection of work from other years, at the Design and Technology Exhibition which takes place on Thursday 31^st May between 4-7pm in the Rigby Block.  More information to follow shortly.

U15 Cricket v Hymers College (Yorkshire) – 1st May 2012.  Match report to follow.

A cold and rainy afternoon at Middlewich Town FC  was the setting for the biggest game of the season for the Senior Football team. Led by Mr Malbon and Mr Douch,  the team were well prepared and ready to bring some silverware back to Sandbach.

The conditions were not in favour of the slick, passing football one usually associates with a Malbon side, and the first half was a scrappy affair, as the opposition tried to intimidate Sandbach with their physical playing style. Mr Malbon cut an agitated figure  and a yard behind him Mr Douch looked equally agitated, mirroring every gesture and every stride up and down the touchline. In the second half Sandbach took control of the game and dominated possession.

Just as Sandbach seemed to be on the verge of scoring, having created several half-chances, Bolingbroke scored with a well-placed shot. This did not deter the Sandbach boys however. Aidan Cox reacted well in the penalty area to grab a late equaliser, and sent the game into extra time. This seemed to extinguish any meaningful resistance from Bolingbroke and Sandbach surged forward when the game restarted. Striker Kenneth Mather scored a wonderful solo effort to make it 2-1, and victory was sealed when Kieron Coleman slotted the ball past the opposition goalkeeper to make it three. It was a fantastic performance and a proud day for Sandbach School football. The first time in the competition’s history that the Senior Football XI has won the Cheshire Schools Under 18 County Cup.

Congratulations to the players superbly led by Year 13 students Aidan Cox , Jake Jackson and Jamie Beresford and many thanks to the supporters who travelled to watch an entertaining game of football.
