Course Structure
Edexcel 2BS01 GCSE Business Studies. The course is divided into unit areas as follows:
Unit 1:
Introduction to Small Business (25% of total GCSE)
This includes 5 topic areas.
- Spotting a business opportunity
- Showing enterprise
- Putting a business idea into practice
- Making the start-up effective
- Understanding the economic context
Overview of Assessment – External exam – 45mins
Unit 2:
Investigating Small Business (25% of total GCSE)
Same content as Unit 1 but the unit is internally assessed under controlled conditions. Research/Investigation – approx 2 weeks curriculum time (max 6 hours).
Analysis/Evaluation of task (final write up) – one week (max 3 hours) of curriculum time.
The task is internally marked then moderated by Edexcel.
Unit 3:
Building a Business (50% of total GCSE)
This unit contains 5 topics:-
- Marketing
- Meeting customer needs
- Effective financial management
- Effective people management
- The wider world affecting business
Overview of Assessment – Written exam – 1hr 30mins
